Video: Rep. Suzan DelBene Says a Vote to Impeach Hegseth May Come in the Lame Duck, but Costs Are Democrats' 'Top Priority'

On CBS's 'The Takeout,' the Washington Democrat said the speaker sent the House home early to avoid a vote. Asked about impeaching Trump, she said people want the party to focus on lowering costs. Breitbart posted a transcript.

A Democratic House member said an impeachment vote on the defense secretary could come after the election, in a clip Breitbart posted Friday.

The setting. Rep. Suzan DelBene, D-Wash., appeared on Thursday's "The Takeout" on CBS. We summarize the transcript Breitbart published and did not watch the video ourselves.

Hegseth. CBS News chief Washington correspondent Major Garrett asked whether there will be a move to impeach Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of War, in January or February. DelBene said: "Well, I think we might even see a vote when we get back in the lame duck." She said Speaker Mike Johnson "sent us home early because he didn't want that vote to come up." The transcript gives no detail on who has filed the measure.

Trump. Garrett then asked about the president. DelBene said: "I think that people want us to focus on costs, lowering costs for people. That's our top priority." Garrett pressed: "Not impeaching the President?" She answered that "fighting the corruption that we see, holding the administration accountable," and using oversight were also priorities.

Note for readers: DelBene's claim about why the House left early is her own and the transcript carries no response from the speaker. The clip does not say she supports or will vote for impeachment.
