House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries was asked about impeachment less than a week before the midterms, in a clip Breitbart posted Thursday.

The setting. Jeffries, D-N.Y., spoke with ABC News correspondent Jay O'Brien on "ABC News Live." We summarize the transcript Breitbart published and did not watch the video ourselves.

The pitch. Jeffries said Americans "are clearly poised to give House and Senate Democrats a chance to govern on their behalf, and to fight to actually make life more affordable. We have gained the trust advantage." Asked whether that was only because voters distrust the president, he said Democrats have the trust advantage "on a whole host of issues."

The question. O'Brien said some Democrats had openly talked about impeaching the president during their campaigns. Jeffries said he has not "heard, coming from House Democrats, a lot of talk about impeachment," and that Democrats have talked about "accountability more broadly defined" and Congress acting as "a check and balance on an out-of-control executive branch."

The answer. Asked if impeachment would be a distraction, he said: "We haven't ruled anything in, and we haven't ruled anything out, because we've made clear that we're focused on addressing the affordability crisis."

Note for readers: this is Jeffries's own account of his caucus. Our earlier stories on other Democrats' impeachment remarks, including Rep. Jason Crow's, are on the site. To hear him in full, watch at the link below.
