Elite New York Public High School Faces Questions After Its Young Democratic Socialists Chapter Signs 'Intifada Until Victory' Post

Fox News reports a Jewish advocacy group wants answers from Stuyvesant High School and the city's schools chancellor. NYC-DSA says it had no part in the post. Neither the school nor the mayor's office had responded.

A student group at one of New York City's most selective public high schools is under scrutiny over an Instagram statement, Fox News reports.

The post. Fox says the Young Democratic Socialists of America chapter at Manhattan's Stuyvesant High School signed a statement declaring "Intifada Until Victory." According to an advocacy group, it was shared a day after the third anniversary of the Oct. 7 attacks. Politico reported that several NYC DSA college chapters, including Hunter College, the New School, City College and Lehman College, shared it too. The statement also accused the city DSA chapter of silencing students who wanted to protest Mayor Zohran Mamdani over Israel, and criticized his decision to keep NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, calling her a "Zionist billionaire."

The complaint. Michelle Ahdoot, director of #EndJewHatred, said in a video: "This is not okay." She told Fox the phrase cannot be separated from its history: "Intifada invokes Palestinian uprisings that included suicide bombings and deliberate attacks on civilians. In this context, 'INTIFADA UNTIL VICTORY!' is a call for violence against Jews and has NO place in a public school community." The group wants Stuyvesant administrators and Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels to respond. Of the silence so far, she said it is "frankly, deafening."

The group's response. NYC-DSA co-chair Grace Mausser told Fox the chapter "was not involved in the planning or development of this post." She added: "We also condemn attempts to attack high school students for political reasons."

The disputed word. Fox notes the word means "to rise up" in Arabic and is tied to the Second Intifada, when, per the ADL, suicide bombings and other attacks killed over a thousand Israeli civilians. Some activists use it to describe resistance to Israeli policies, while many Jews hear a call for violence.

The background. Fox cites antisemitic graffiti found at Stuyvesant in May 2025, per the student paper, and an August 2026 United Jewish Teachers report counting 250 antisemitic and anti-Israel incidents in city public schools between October 2023 and July 2026. Open questions include whether the chapter is officially recognized, whether a teacher supervises it, and whether administrators have acted.

What we could not check. Fox says Mamdani's office, Principal Seung Yu and the Board of Education had not replied. We did not see the Instagram post and do not know how many Stuyvesant students signed on.
