The election is over but the calendar is not. These are the dates and events we can source today. Anything marked "expected" is reporting, not a scheduled fact.
Dates
- Next week (expected): House Republicans hold secret-ballot leadership elections. Speaker Mike Johnson is not running for minority leader. Rep. Jim Jordan has announced. Rep. Steve Scalise had not as of CNN's report. (CNN, Nov. 4)
- Nov. 13: Mississippi counties must submit certified results to the secretary of state. Mississippi has no automatic recount, so a recount would need a court order. (Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson, via Al Jazeera)
- Nov. 18: Alaska's Division of Elections says ranked-choice results will be published. The AP has said most mail ballots are not expected before then. (Al Jazeera, AP)
- Nov. 19: Minnesota's State Canvassing Board certifies. A recount request in the 1st District would follow, up to Nov. 23 per KTTC.
- Jan. 3: the 120th Congress convenes. (Al Jazeera)
Questions the next two weeks answer
- Does Mississippi's Senate lead hold once about 3,600 mail ballots and the provisional ballots are counted? Scott Colom (D) leads by 1,138 votes.
- Does Mary Peltola's 637-vote lead in Alaska survive the rest of the count and the ranked-choice rounds, and does the Justice Department's appeal go anywhere?
- Does Kansas governor, 7,045 votes apart at about 99% counted, get a call, and does it draw a recount request?
- How many of the 48 uncalled House races do each party win, and does Mr. Jeffries reach his predicted 255 seats?
- Do Democrats move on the filibuster, and what do Republicans do in the Senate minority?
- Does the Iran war become the first fight? Both Democratic leaders say it is a priority.
- Does Mr. Trump keep saying he accepts the results? He has said he does.
