# Walmart's Holiday Meal Basket Drops to $35 for 10 People, About $3.50 Each, the Lowest Price Since the Program Began in 2022

Fox Business says the 26-item basket costs 12% less than the same products did a year ago, with a turkey at 97 cents a pound. Target and Aldi have their own offers as grocery prices stay on shoppers' minds.

The Thanksgiving price war is on, and Walmart has put a number on it, Fox Business reports.

The deal. Walmart announced Wednesday a $35 holiday meal basket it says can feed 10 people, or about $3.50 a person. The 26-item basket includes a Butterball turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, dinner rolls, sweet potato and corn casserole ingredients, and a pumpkin pie with whipped topping. It is available through Dec. 24.

The comparison. Walmart says this year's basket has 18% more food items and costs 12% less than the same products did last year. Reuters, cited by Fox, says $3.50 per person is the lowest since the program launched in 2022, down from $4 last year. The turkey is 97 cents a pound, unchanged from last year.

The competition. Target says its meal feeds six and costs $30. Aldi says its version feeds 10 for under $39. Walmart-owned Sam's Club has announced its largest Thanksgiving offering, a spread for 16 people at under $10 per person.

The backdrop. Fox says the deals come as retailers chase budget-conscious shoppers. It cites the Bureau of Labor Statistics' September consumer price index: food prices are up 2.5% from a year ago. Food at home fell 0.1% on the month and is up 1.8% from last year, while food away from home rose 0.2% on the month and is up 3.5%.
