Video: Speaker Johnson Tells Ingraham 'the Polls Are Grossly Underestimating Republican Enthusiasm' a Week Before the Midterms
In a 1:47 clip, Johnson says he will visit 21 more states before Election Day and warns of a Democratic 'far lurch to the left.' Breitbart's write-up does not say what Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries said that prompted the 'peaceful' question.
Breitbart posted a short clip and transcript of House Speaker Mike Johnson on Fox News Channel's "The Ingraham Angle," arguing that polls showing Democrats ahead are wrong.
The claim. Johnson said, "The polls are grossly underestimating Republican enthusiasm around the country." He said he is "traveling the country nonstop," with 39 districts visited last week and 21 more states planned before the election. "The American people understand this is a contrast election," he said. "We do not want to go back to crazy."
The warning. He said Democrats have "taken a far lurch to the left" and that a Democratic Congress would be "crazier even than the Obama years and the Biden-Harris years." He said that contrast should "juice enthusiasm" for Republicans.
The question about peace. Host Laura Ingraham asked whether he could guarantee things would be peaceful, saying someone was "raising the specter of things not being peaceful." Johnson answered, "Of course it will be peaceful. I have no idea what Hakeem is talking about."
Note for readers: we did not watch the clip and rely on Breitbart's text. The transcript does not quote the remark by House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries that prompted the question, and it gives no polling figures. Johnson's enthusiasm claim is his own assertion.
