# Video: Rep. Vicente Gonzalez Tells CNN Democrats Should Reform ICE and 'Get Rid of a Bunch of Rogue Agents,' Not Abolish It

The question. Host Dana Bash noted many Democrats in the next Congress will want to abolish ICE and asked what the party should do if it wins the majority.

The answer. "Abolish is kind of, like, a pretty strong word, but I think we need to reform ICE," Gonzalez said. "I think we need to get rid of a bunch of rogue agents. But there are a lot of good agents that work in ICE that handle our trade, that handle border security, that do a lot of good work in my community."

The criticism. He said many agents are upset about "new policies that have come out of this administration, with a lot of new agents that haven't been properly trained and have been directed to really just bring abuse to the streets." He said agents tell him privately they disagree with the policies, and he described unmarked vehicles and masked agents tackling people, including a man with a lawnmower. "That is not the America the world knows and loves," he said.

The politics. He said the ballot box shows voters want a change of course, citing "overwhelming numbers in districts that Democrats should have lost."
