# Video: Nancy Pelosi Tells NPR the Gap Between Progressives and Mainstream Democrats Is 'About Timing, How Quickly You Do This or That'

A Breitbart clip post from NPR's Tuesday election coverage. We relied on Breitbart's written transcript, not the video. The comments are Pelosi's.

Breitbart posted a clip of Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., on NPR's election night coverage Tuesday, as Democrats won the House and the Senate.

What she said. Pelosi said "there's tremendous consensus in our party." Co-host Mary Louise Kelly asked, "You don't see deep divisions between the progressives and mainstream of your party?" Pelosi answered: "No. There is some, it's all about timing, how quickly you do this or that. Many of the things that they are advocating, we have been doing."

The contrast she drew. She added: "But I do think you have to say this about the Democrats, we are not a lockstep, take orders from the President of the United States, Donald Trump, as the Republicans are. That's not who we are."

Why it matters here. Several Fox columnists argue the new Democratic majority will struggle to hold its establishment and progressive wings together. Our earlier report covered Doug Schoen's column making that case. Pelosi's answer is the opposite view, from a former speaker.

What we could not check. This post summarizes Breitbart's written account of a video. We did not watch the segment, so we cannot vouch for tone, context or anything left out. Breitbart's text is short and does not include other parts of the interview.
