# Video Goes Viral of a UT San Antonio Student Reading a Poem Mocking Charlie Kirk's Killing at a Turning Point Event

Breitbart reports the student read the poem at a 'Pick Up the Mic' table, then told the speaker he was brave to appear without a neck brace. Conservatives condemned it. We have not seen the video or heard from the university.

A video from a Turning Point USA campus event in Texas is drawing sharp condemnation from conservatives, Breitbart reports.

The scene. Breitbart says a University of Texas at San Antonio student went to the microphone at a Turning Point USA "Pick Up the Mic" event, a Q&A and "Prove Me Wrong" style program meant to continue Charlie Kirk's work on campus. The speaker was Christian Collins, president and founder of the Texas Youth Summit. The student read a poem that made light of the anniversary of Kirk's assassination and used internet slang for it. Breitbart says other students in the audience cheered.

The remark to the speaker. After the poem, the student turned to Collins and told him he was brave to be out there with "no protection, no nothing," adding "No, like, neck brace." Breitbart's headline calls this a threat. That is the outlet's characterization, and we did not review the clip.

The reaction. Actor Dean Cain called the student "sick in the head." Riley Gaines wrote that students cheering after a poem about an assassination was "sickening." Libs of TikTok called the left a "death cult" and told followers to "vote like your life depends on it." Jack Posobiec suggested the student, if not a citizen, could "enjoy her free flight home."

The open questions. Breitbart's piece carries no statement from the university, Turning Point USA or the student. Social media users have named a student, and Breitbart repeats that the name is claimed, not confirmed. We are not printing it. Online guesses about the student's citizenship are speculation.

Note for readers: we summarized Breitbart's account and did not watch the video. Breitbart reports no statement from campus police or prosecutors on whether anything in the remarks was a threat.
