U.S. Embassy in Moscow Warns of a 'Credible' Threat of a Mass Casualty Event Saturday at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve

The embassy told people to avoid the area and crowds and said it is coordinating with Russian authorities. Fox News calls it a developing story and had no further details.

The U.S. Embassy in Moscow issued a security alert Saturday about a possible attack at a popular tourist site, Fox News reports.

The alert. The embassy said it "is aware of a credible threat of a mass casualty event TODAY October 31, at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve in Moscow," and that the U.S. government "is coordinating with appropriate Russian authorities on a response." It told people to avoid the area, "stay alert, and avoid crowds," keep phones and batteries charged, stay aware of their surroundings and review a personal security plan.

The place. Founded in 1775 as a summer home for Catherine II, the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve drew more than two million visitors in 2022, according to Moscow's deputy mayor in 2023. Fox says the grounds see even more foot traffic from locals exercising and walking dogs.

The backdrop. Fox notes the alert came as the Russia-Ukraine war escalates. On Friday Ukraine struck an oil refinery in southern Russia, ending a two-week pause on energy attacks that President Trump brokered. The day before, Russian drone and missile strikes in Ukraine killed at least 27 civilians, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Note for readers: the embassy did not say who is behind the threat or what form it takes, and Fox says it had contacted the embassy and was awaiting more information. We had no Russian government response. This is a developing story.
