Trump Supporters at Iowa Rally Back Republicans but Warn About Prices, the Iran War and Turnout
Fox News talked to attendees outside Trump's Sioux City event for Senate candidate Ashley Hinson. They said they still back the party, but want results on costs and Congress, and worry Republicans will stay home Nov. 3.
With less than two weeks to go, loyal Trump voters in Iowa are telling Republicans to deliver. Fox News Digital spoke with supporters outside the president's rally in Sioux City, where he was set to boost Rep. Ashley Hinson in her Senate race against state Rep. Josh Turek.
The race. Hinson and Turek are competing for the seat Sen. Joni Ernst is leaving. Fox counts it among six toss-ups Senate Republicans are trying to hold, and calls it surprisingly close given that Trump carried Iowa by roughly 13 points in 2024.
The mood. Fox says prices are still high and the war in Iran is still dragging on, with fuel costs elevated heading into Nov. 3. Voter Beth Fitzl said she does not "agree with everything he does, but in the end, he's here for us." Chuck Jones, a veteran who drove in from Minnesota, said it is time to "show some difference," and wants politicians to work together instead of fighting each other.
The issue that came up most. Dawn Stanley, who has backed Trump in each of the last three elections, said the failure to pass the SAVE America Act, the voter ID and election security bill Senate Democrats have blocked, was her biggest frustration with Republicans. She also said Turek has missed votes. Fox reports he missed 261 votes in the state legislature between January and May while campaigning.
The turnout worry. One South Dakota voter said Republicans "stay home too much" and called the election "a war to be won with the Left."
Note for readers: the quotes come from a small number of rally-goers and are not a poll. Fox's report names the voters it spoke with; we have not independently checked any of their claims, including Stanley's comments on immigration and Turek's voting record beyond what Fox reports.
