A British anti-grooming gang activist was convicted on Wednesday over his conduct toward two reporters, Breitbart reports.

The verdict. Southwark Crown Court found Tommy Robinson guilty of two counts of harassment causing fear of violence against Daily Mail journalists Andrew Young and Jacob Dirnhuber. He faces up to ten years in prison. Sentencing was not reported.

The background. The paper had accused Robinson of stoking the riots after the 2024 Southport stabbings, which he has denied, and published pictures of him at a property in Cyprus where he was staying with his family. Robinson says that exposed his location when "people want to kill me." The BBC reported he then hired private investigators to find the reporters' home addresses to "put pressure on them."

The evidence. The court heard that Robinson posted the journalists' personal details on X and told Young on a phone call that he was "coming to get" him. The reporters said they hired private security and left their homes. Robinson told the court he did not mean to frighten them but to "bring the Daily Mail to the table," and said he "panicked."

The responses. A Met Police spokesman said there are "legitimate and established routes" for people with complaints about the media, and that Robinson made "threatening online posts in the knowledge that they would almost certainly lead to his followers to target and intimidate those journalists." Robinson wrote on X that the ruling was "insane" and that "we fight on." Restore Britain leader Rupert Lowe said Robinson has "not been treated fairly by our establishment for many years," adding: "He was right on the rape gangs. The state was wrong."

His record. Breitbart says Robinson has been jailed several times, most recently for contempt of court after he repeated claims about a Syrian refugee who had sued him for libel.

Note for readers: this is Breitbart's account of the case, and it frames Robinson sympathetically. The conviction is the court's finding. Lowe's view of the motive is his own opinion.
