What the sheriff said. Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister called it a "targeted incident" and said the suspect is deceased, according to Breitbart, which cites WFLA. The sheriff's office later posted on X that the shooting victim had died. Breitbart cites the New York Post as saying the victim had first been reported wounded and bleeding in the cafeteria.
What employees were told. Citibank employees were asked to meet at a triage area in the parking lot of the Sheraton Tampa Brandon Hotel. Families were directed to Staybridge Suites Tampa East, at Queen Palm Drive and North Falkenburg Road, for reunification.
Other reporting. A search of other outlets found an Associated Press story carried by local stations. It says deputies responded to an "active threat" at 1:34 p.m. at the Sabal Center, that 367 deputies and specialized units responded, and that the complex has four three-story buildings and employs thousands of people. What we could not check. Breitbart said further details were scant. We do not know who the victim or the suspect is, what the motive was, or how the shooter was killed. The Breitbart page headline changed from "One Innocent Killed" to "One Wounded" at some point, so early wording may be out of date. We have not seen the sheriff's posts ourselves.
