The Daily Wire says an undercover video caught Democratic congressional candidate Stefany Shaheen calling for ICE to be dismantled, two days before she denied it in a debate. This story is dated Oct. 23, a day older than most of today's.

The debate. On Oct. 19, in a debate for New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District, Republican Anthony DiLorenzo said, "My opponent has advocated for abolishing immigration enforcement." Shaheen answered, "That is not true." When DiLorenzo said, "You said it," pointing to earlier campaign comments reported by the New Hampshire Journal, she replied, "I did not."

The video. In footage dated Oct. 17 and obtained by the Daily Wire, an undercover journalist asks how Democrats could stop ICE. Shaheen says: "I think we have to pull back the funding for Homeland Security. And we need to dismantle ICE." She calls pulling back funding "the number one thing we can do," adding that it would eventually "put them out of work."

Her website. The Daily Wire notes Shaheen's campaign site says ICE should be "completely overhauled." It calls for body cameras, a mask ban, an end to warrantless searches, and no ICE raids in schools, churches and hospitals. It also says "there will be no ICE warehouses anywhere in New Hampshire."

The race. Shaheen is the daughter of Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, who is not seeking reelection. The district narrowly voted for Kamala Harris in 2024, and the Cook Political Report rates the race "Likely Democrat." The Daily Wire says it asked her campaign for comment. Its report includes no reply.

The politics. The outlet adds that immigration enforcement has become a vulnerability for some Republicans before November, after high-profile shootings involving ICE agents and turmoil at DHS gave Democrats an opening.

Note for readers: we have not seen the footage. The Daily Wire says it obtained the video, and we cannot confirm its context or editing. Whether "dismantle" and "overhaul" mean the same thing here is for readers to judge, and Shaheen has not responded in the report.
