Russia Detains a Minor Over an Alleged Moscow Attack Plot After a U.S. Tip-Off

Russia's security service says the teenager posted TikTok photos holding what looked like an automatic weapon. The arrest followed a U.S. Embassy warning of a credible mass-casualty threat at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve.

Russian police have arrested a minor in connection with an alleged plot to attack Moscow after a tip from the United States, according to an AFP report carried by Breitbart.

What Russia says. The FSB security service said Sunday that it had verified information from U.S. law enforcement and detained a Russian minor as a result. Russian news agencies quoted the FSB as saying the teenager had posted TikTok photos of himself in a balaclava, cap and goggles holding what resembled an automatic weapon. CNN reports the FSB described a suspect allegedly planning an attack on a major Moscow museum.

The warning. The arrest followed a Saturday alert from the U.S. Embassy in Moscow about "a credible threat of a mass casualty event" at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve, according to CNN. We covered that alert Saturday, when the embassy had not said who was behind the threat.

What to keep in mind. The account of the suspect and the plot comes from Russia's security service, relayed by Russian agencies, and we have not seen independent confirmation or charges. Details here come from the AFP text carried by Breitbart and from CNN and Al Jazeera summaries. Al Jazeera, citing Interfax, calls the target a popular Moscow park.
