# Opinion: The California Post Editorial Board Endorses Steve Hilton for Governor and Calls Xavier Becerra an 'Empty Suit'

The editorial credits Hilton's no-tax-up-to-$150,000 idea and gas tax cuts, and says California has had 16 years of one-party rule. It is an endorsement, not reporting, and the Becerra campaign is not quoted.

A California newspaper's editorial board says voters should pick the Republican in next week's race for governor. This is opinion, and the judgments are the board's.

The writer. The California Post editorial board. Fox News ran the editorial.

The case for Hilton. The board says Steve Hilton ran a "bold" campaign with ideas even some Democrats embraced, such as no state tax on income up to $150,000. It credits him with calling for lower fuel prices by cutting gas taxes and "green energy" policies, for building "out, not up" with single-family homes, for defending girls' sports and parents' right to know what is going on with their children, and for visiting Skid Row and "fentanyl alley."

The case against Becerra. The board calls Democrat Xavier Becerra "nobody's first choice in the primary" and "an empty suit" who "failed upwards." It says Susan Rice once called him an idiot and did not deny it when backing him. It lists his record as a congressman, attorney general and Biden's HHS secretary and says he has "no real achievements to speak of."

The stakes. The board says California leads the nation in poverty and homelessness, is losing businesses and Hollywood jobs, and suffers from wildfires, fraud and failing schools after 16 years of Democratic control. It says Democrats "have given us a candidate who promises to change nothing."

The other side. The editorial does not quote Becerra or his campaign, and its factual claims are the board's own. The Rice remark is attributed to the board and we have not checked it.

Note for readers: this is an endorsement and reads as one. Hilton is the Republican nominee and Becerra the Democratic one.
