# Opinion: Ari Fleischer Says a Democratic Congress Means a 'Mad Dash to the Left' as the 2028 Primary Starts Now

In a Fox News column, the former White House press secretary argues Congress will matter less for legislation than for Democratic presidential hopefuls, who will use it to stake out left-wing positions. The views are his.

This is a summary of an opinion column on Fox News by Ari Fleischer. The views are his, not RightNewsRightNow's.

His argument. Fleischer writes that with Democrats in control, "expect limited action on the legislative front." Trump's agenda and appointments are stymied, he says, but the president "still has a veto, so nothing happens unless the President wants it to happen." The story to watch, he argues, is how congressional Democrats shape the Democratic presidential primary, which "begins now."

The field. He recalls that 29 Democrats ran for president in 2019 and 2020, and expects more than 20 candidates this time.

The left's pull. Fleischer writes that the Democratic Party "is about to break," with "redistributive socialists and progressives" pushing the old party aside. He says Democrats "run as moderates, but then govern from the left," pointing to Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia, and says James Talarico and Abdul El-Sayed "are not going to vote purple."

What he expects. Even bills that cannot beat a veto will be passed to set up 2028, he writes. He lists Medicare for All, abolishing ICE and cutting off support for Israel as likely priorities, and predicts the filibuster could be eliminated to pass Supreme Court expansion, statehood for Democratic strongholds, and nationwide billionaire and millionaire taxes. They would be vetoed, he says, but failed bills can lay groundwork, as supply-side tax cuts and Obamacare did before they passed.

The warning for Democrats. Moderates "will be overrun," he writes, and the further left the party goes in 2027, "the harder it will be for them to actually win the White House in 2028."
