# Nolte: Maryland Teen Stabbed After Alleged Kidnapping by a Man New York Released Despite an ICE Detainer

Police say a 23-year-old Sierra Leonean cab driver stabbed a 15-year-old girl on Oct. 22. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin blames sanctuary policy after New York did not honor an ICE detainer from a July arrest. Breitbart notes the video does not match part of her account.

A Breitbart commentary by John Nolte uses a Baltimore-area attack on a teenager to argue against sanctuary policies. The facts below are the police account as Breitbart relays it. The suspect has not been tried.

The allegation. Police say a 15-year-old girl asked 23-year-old Abubakarr Barrie, an unlicensed cab driver from Sierra Leone, for a ride on the night of Oct. 22. According to the police report, she noticed he was driving the wrong way, and he "became violent," put his arm around her neck and head, then forced her out of the car and into a basement room, telling her to put down her phone and not to scream. She told police he stabbed her repeatedly, that she fought back and got away after hitting him with a fire extinguisher, and that she ran out without clothes or shoes about 45 minutes after entering. Police found her stabbed numerous times with a collapsed lung.

The video. The homeowner who rented Barrie the basement found surveillance footage of the girl entering and fleeing, which Fox Baltimore reported. Nolte says one thing does not line up: in the video she appears to follow Barrie into the apartment voluntarily, so it does not support her statement that he forced her out of the car. He adds that she was stabbed, ran from the home and named him as her attacker.

The immigration history. Nolte says Barrie entered the country illegally during the Biden administration and was arrested in New York in July on a charge of possessing a forged instrument. ICE filed a detainer, which New York did not honor, and he was released.

The administration's response. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, quoted via the New York Post, said: "This tragedy would never have happened were it not for the multiple failures of sanctuary policies. First, Biden's open borders let this monster into our country; then, sanctuary politicians in New York refused to hand him over to ICE and released him after a previous arrest three months before this horrific crime."

What to keep in mind. The charges and the attack are allegations. We have not seen the police report or the court file, and Breitbart's piece does not say what charges Barrie faces or how he responded. The link between the July release and the October attack is Nolte's and Mullin's argument. Nolte's closing lines are opinion.
