The Daily Caller News Foundation reports that suspected Havana syndrome cases are being treated close to Washington, D.C.

The report. At least six new suspected cases are being treated for confirmed or suspected brain injuries at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, according to NewsNation. Investigative journalist Catherine Herridge reported on NewsNation that the cases date back to the summer and involve possible directed-energy attacks. Walter Reed is home to the National Intrepid Center of Excellence, a treatment and research center for traumatic brain injuries and what the government calls anomalous health incidents.

Who is affected. Herridge reported that at least two senior U.S. government personnel working on directed-energy projects, one at the Defense Department and one at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, reported suspected incidents in the Washington area. She said some of the victims worked on directed-energy technology. Her report says this fits her September reporting of more than two dozen suspected incidents inside the United States, including a cluster at an off-site U.S. government intelligence and research facility in Northern Virginia.

What it usually is. The Government Accountability Office describes Havana syndrome symptoms as tinnitus, blurred vision, dizziness and vertigo, often following a loud noise and intense pain in the ears and head. It has mostly affected diplomats and intelligence officers abroad.

The details. Some patients reported suspicious vehicles nearby before symptoms started. Herridge said some people told her their dogs reacted first: "the first instant they realize that something is happening is that the dog reacts." She said she expects to learn more about the government's findings before the end of the year. NewsNation reports the U.S. is investigating whether a foreign entity was involved.

What is not known. Investigators have not publicly established a cause or named a responsible party. Walter Reed did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation's request for comment, and the case count comes from Herridge's sources, not from the government.
