# Musk Says a Democratic Sweep in 2028 Could Mean the 'End of Democracy' and Urges Votes for Republican Senators

In an X post, the billionaire named three moves he fears: statehood for D.C. and Puerto Rico, legal status for immigrants here illegally, and a bigger Supreme Court. Fox says he has put $276 million into Republican groups in three months.

Elon Musk is telling voters the Senate is the firewall, Fox News reports.

The warning. In a post on X, Musk wrote: "My biggest concern is that if there is a clean sweep by Democrats of the House, Senate and Presidency in 2028," three things would follow. He named them: statehood for Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, which he says would hand Democrats a strong Senate majority; opening the borders and legalizing immigrants in the country illegally, which he says would give the party a lasting electoral edge; and adding Supreme Court justices to secure an immediate majority on the court.

The conclusion. "This would result in America becoming a permanent one-party state and the end of democracy in any meaningful sense of the word," Musk wrote. He said Republicans need at least 51 Senate seats after the 2028 elections to stop all three. His ask for this year: "That is why you should vote for Republican senators this election. Other reasons are irrelevant compared to this one."

The Senate. Fox says its Power Rankings still rate the chamber a toss-up, with six states deciding the majority. The best case it lists for Democrats is 54 seats, and for Republicans, up to 52.

The money. A representative for Musk's America PAC told Fox earlier this month that he gave $276 million to Republican super PACs and groups over the previous three months. That includes $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, the super PAC aligned with Majority Leader John Thune, and $10 million to Lone Star Liberty PAC, which backs Texas Senate nominee Ken Paxton.

The reply. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took aim at the spending, writing on X this week: "Elon Musk is flooding the midterms with money to help Trump. But even his millions may not be enough to counteract reality."

Note for readers: these are Musk's predictions and political views. Fox does not quote any Democratic leader saying the party plans statehood, mass legalization or court expansion. Our earlier stories on Musk's political spending and his comments on Democratic investigations are on the site.
