Elon Musk has promised to hand one SpaceX share to every child in America next year, and Fox News says the plan is short on specifics.

The pledge. Musk wrote on X: "Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many." SpaceX went public in June 2026.

The math. Fox says SpaceX closed at $147.49 on Oct. 23. With just over 72 million Americans under 18, one share each would cost about $10.6 billion at that price. For a family with two children, that is roughly $295 in stock. Fox warns the value could move a lot by 2027 and that a single share guarantees nothing.

What is missing. Musk has not said how shares would reach families or which children qualify.

The context. The announcement followed a pledge from Anthropic to commit 5 percent of its shares to a new public benefit fund, subject to stockholder approval. Fox says Musk answered by urging companies to give shares directly to the public, then made his own promise. Separately, the Treasury began automatically enrolling eligible children in "Trump Accounts" on Oct. 1, though parents must still claim them. Fox says new rules since Sept. 30 allow donations of public company shares into those accounts, with a hold period of five years or until the account's growth period ends, and that SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell and her husband already pledged a share to each of more than 2 million children's accounts. Musk could use that system, Fox says, but he has not said he will.
