# Mullin Says DHS Has Handed the Justice Department a 'Large Case' Against Ilhan Omar; She Has Not Been Charged

Breitbart reports the Homeland Security secretary rejected claims the probe is political. Prosecutors told a court the inquiry reaches beyond the congresswoman, who denies wrongdoing.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin says his department has given the Justice Department a "large case" in the federal investigation of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., Breitbart reports. Omar has not been charged.

What Mullin said. He said Homeland Security Investigations did extensive work before presenting the case to prosecutors, and that the Justice Department is leading the investigation. He rejected the charge that it is political: "We're not weaponizing, we're not using political theater on this." He said enforcement does not turn on a person's office or party, and that anyone who broke the law would be treated the same way.

What prosecutors told a court. Breitbart says prosecutors wrote in a filing opposing release of records that "the investigation of [the Subject and] other individuals continues." The filing did not name anyone else or describe their roles. Breitbart also reports that agents served a second warrant at the home of Omar's sister, Sahra Noor, on the same day they searched Omar's Washington residence, and that grand jury subpoenas have gone to more than a dozen recipients, including relatives. It says the grand jury sits in Minnesota. The filing said Attorney General Todd Blanche signed off on the warrant and attested that its timing was not meant to influence an election. Omar is on the ballot Tuesday.

The other side. Breitbart notes that former President Obama wrote on X on Oct. 18 that "the government can't selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs." It also reports that more than 170 House Democrats urged the Justice Department on Monday to drop the inquiry, citing a 2019 review by the first Trump administration that found insufficient evidence of wrongdoing. Omar has denied wrongdoing and called the investigation politically motivated. She has also rejected the long-running allegation that she married her brother, a claim Breitbart says has never been established.

What to keep in mind. Mullin's description of the case is his own, and the public filings, as Breitbart relays them, do not say what offenses are under investigation. No charges have been announced.
