# Kim Jong Un Watches a Suicide Drone Hit a Mock U.S. Abrams Tank at a Weapons Show With More Than 30 Types of Drones

North Korean state media claims 100 percent accuracy, which has not been verified. The Caller notes the photos do not show the drones are operational or mass-produced.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un watched a suicide drone dive into a replica of an American M1 Abrams tank during a weapons demonstration Thursday, the Daily Caller reports.

The show. The demonstration accompanied an exhibition of more than 30 types of unmanned aircraft, from small attack drones to large reconnaissance platforms, according to the defense site Army Recognition. North Korea also fired cruise missiles and heavy rocket artillery. Photos released Friday show a propeller-driven loitering munition descending on a sand-colored Abrams replica, then a fireball. Pyongyang did not give the drone's range or warhead size. The Caller says its design resembles the Israeli-designed Hero-400, which the U.S. Marine Corps has fielded, though photographs alone do not show it has the same abilities.

Other targets. Mock South Korean guard posts, K9 howitzers and counterbattery radar were also hit. Several systems appeared to use fiber-optic guidance, which ties a drone to its operator by cable and can defeat radio jamming, a method that has spread in Ukraine. A flying-wing drone resembled the American RQ-170 and Russia's S-70, and two surveillance and strike models resembled the RQ-4 Global Hawk and MQ-9 Reaper.

Kim's message. State media said Kim called "absolute superiority" in drone technology necessary and urged researchers to expand artificial intelligence in unmanned weapons. It claimed the suicide drones and missiles struck island targets with 100 percent accuracy. That has not been independently verified.

The missiles. South Korea's Joint Chiefs said about 10 short-range ballistic missiles flew roughly 250 kilometers from the Wonsan area Thursday, the North's 17th ballistic launch of 2026, according to Yonhap. North Korea also showed a 600 mm rocket launcher called "Sniper" for the first time. A South Korean official said the launchers likely belong to the KN-25 family, which Pyongyang says can carry tactical nuclear warheads.

The Russia link. The Caller notes more than 16,000 North Korean personnel have deployed to Russia since October 2024, per South Korean intelligence cited by Army Recognition, and that battlefield experience with drones and electronic warfare could help the North adapt its weapons. It adds that the exhibition did not establish that the newest drones are operational, mass-produced or tied to real-time targeting.

Note for readers: most details come from North Korean state media and defense websites. The Caller says the drone comparisons are based on appearance only.
