Kamala Harris has told her party that impeaching President Trump should not be its next big project, Fox News reports.

The question. On Wednesday, "The Parnas Perspective" host Aaron Parnas asked the former vice president what Congress should do if Democrats win it back in November: pursue investigations and maybe impeachment one day, or pass policy and force a veto.

The answer. "I think that going on in the direction of impeachment is not a good idea. OK, just to be honest with you. Because we have limited resources and I think the energy and the resources need to be put into accountability, need to be put into investigations and that's where the time should be spent," Harris said. She added that she was in the Senate "for the last go-round and the votes aren't there, right?"

The tone. Harris said Democrats should be "ruthless," which she defined as "not cruel" but "uncompromising," and not "genteel about the relationships." She named restoring "what they took in terms of the Medicaid cuts" and "some check and balance around this war nobody wants" as goals.

The split. Fox says some Democrats are pushing the other way. Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, forced a vote on a resolution to impeach Trump over immigration enforcement, which divided House Democrats whose leaders have largely avoided the subject. Florida Senate candidate Angie Nixon told Politico she would not oppose impeachment hearings and would vote to remove Trump. Comedian Jon Stewart, on his podcast, said he did not want "a five-act performative play of House hearings." Fox also notes Harris has backed Supreme Court expansion, possibly ending the Electoral College, and D.C. and Puerto Rico statehood.

The outside view. Northeastern political scientist Costas Panagopoulos told Fox voters want accountability but "want affordable gas and groceries more." Republican strategist Liz Mair said Harris was "right," and that every second spent on impeachment is "a minute they're not spending addressing affordability challenges."

Note for readers: this is Harris on a left-leaning podcast, relayed by Fox. She did not rule out accountability or investigations. Comments from Mair and Panagopoulos are their own views.
