A federal judge in Texas has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric examination as part of a judicial misconduct investigation, Fox News reports.

The judge. U.S. District Judge Ada Brown of the Northern District of Texas was appointed by President Trump in March 2019. She is the first Black woman to serve on that court. Fox says the Fifth Circuit Judicial Council removed her from her docket earlier this month after a May misconduct complaint from attorney Ezra Young, whom she had barred from practicing in her courtroom.

The hearing. The complaint centers on an April hearing in which Young faced possible sanctions over Brown's allegation that he shared sealed court filings online. He represented a Black law professor who sued Southern Methodist University, claiming she was denied tenure because of discrimination. According to a transcript Fox says Bloomberg obtained, Brown told Young, "You're the White savior, come to save all the stupid Black lawyers in Texas who need your help from New York." She also said he seemed "very intimidated" by "Black excellence" in light of his "White mediocrity," called him "White presenting," and used the label "Chad," which she described as the male version of "Karen."

Brown's response. In a July 28 filing, Brown wrote that she did "not believe my demeanor was inappropriate at any time, especially during the candid conversations about race." She also said she takes "to heart the lessons I have learned from this experience" and asked the chief judge to weigh her candor and her willingness to be mentored by senior judges.

What we could not confirm. The Fox report does not say who ordered the exam, when it must happen or what it covers beyond being part of the misconduct investigation. It does not describe any finding against Brown, and the investigation is ongoing. The Fox headline uses the word "unhinged," which is the outlet's characterization, not a finding.
