Jeffries and Johnson Both Head to Virginia for the Final Weekend, With the 2nd District Rated Leaning Democratic and Early Voting Ending at 5 p.m. Saturday
The Daily Signal maps the last-minute stops in the 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th Districts, where forecasters see Republicans on defense, and notes three constitutional amendments on Virginia's ballot.
Both men who want to be the next Speaker of the House are in Virginia before Tuesday's election, The Daily Signal reports.
The 2nd District. Democrat Hakeem Jeffries appears Saturday in Virginia Beach with former Rep. Elaine Luria, who wants her seat back from Republican Rep. Jen Kiggans. Speaker Mike Johnson joins Kiggans at a "Red, White, and Blue Rally" Monday, with former Gov. Glenn Youngkin and country singer Colton James also expected. The UVA Center for Politics rated the race "leans Democratic" in its final forecast on Tuesday. The last public poll, from Christopher Newport University on Oct. 1 to 10, had Luria ahead 46% to 43%, within its 4-point margin of error.
The rest of the map. In the 6th District, Sen. Mark Warner appears Saturday with Democrat Beth Macy, who is challenging Rep. Ben Cline. Her team says no one polled the district, but the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee put it on its "Districts in Play" list. In the 1st District, Democrat Shannon Taylor said Thursday she "would vote to end the war on day one," and Johnson plans to rally with Rep. Rob Wittman in Henrico County on Monday. Sabato's Crystal Ball lists the 1st and 5th Districts as toss-ups. In the 5th, Rep. John McGuire faces former Rep. Tom Perriello, who is set to appear with former Rep. Denver Riggleman in Lynchburg.
The Senate race. Warner, who says this will be his last campaign, faces retired Army Maj. Gen. Bert Mizusawa. The Daily Signal says Warner appears headed for reelection.
The deadlines. Three constitutional amendments are on the statewide ballot. Early voting ends at 5 p.m. Saturday, and polls open at 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Note for readers: The Daily Signal is a conservative outlet. The ratings and the poll are from outside forecasters and one survey, and the poll is nearly three weeks old.
