Iran's leaders are treating the Republican defeat as a win for Tehran, Fox News reports.

What they said. Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, posted on an official English-language X account: "The process of the US's collapse has accelerated." Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who has also served as Tehran's chief negotiator with Washington, wrote: "Conscience or the cost of living, Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message." He warned that if the U.S. government "betrays their public will to serve international paymasters and blackmailers, it will learn our NO comes with a Nightmare."

No signal of a deal. Khamenei appeared to say Iran would hold firm. He wrote that "the Great Satan" wants Iran's surrender and that "the slightest inclination toward submission" would waste what Iran has gained and "embolden the enemy to launch more wars." Fox also cites Deputy Speaker Ali Nikzad, who called the Republican losses "aftershocks" of what he described as a defeat of Trump by Iran, and an official in President Masoud Pezeshkian's office who said the war and U.S. support for Israel cost Republicans.

The American side. Fox says Trump acknowledged Iran "partly" played a role in the losses while defending the decision to go to war. Vice President Vance was blunter, writing "The reason we lost is the war." We cover his statement in a separate report.

The war so far. Fox says the conflict has gone on more than eight months, after Trump predicted weeks. Iran choked traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and attacked Gulf energy sites. Fox cites an International Monetary Fund estimate that more than 1.1 billion barrels of crude were disrupted by the end of May. It says U.S.-led operations restored much of the traffic by fall, but flows remain below prewar levels and Iran has kept hitting commercial ships. Trump has said the four-to-six-week timeline referred only to eliminating Iran's nuclear threat.

What we could not check. The Iranian posts are propaganda from an adversary, and we have not seen them directly. Fox's wider claims about the war's political cost are its own analysis, and the IMF figure is as Fox reports it.
