Iran warned Saturday of an "earth-shattering blow" against the United States and Israel if either resumes strikes, while Washington weighs new action after Tuesday's elections, Breitbart reports.

The threat. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote on X, in reply to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who had cited the war's energy costs for Europe: "100bn Euro is nothing compared to the Earth-shattering blow Iran's Powerful Armed Forces will deal against those who dare harm our people." He added, "Red lines are a thing of the past."

The orders. Iranian state media reported that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei ordered commanders to prepare an "immediate, effective response without geographical limitations." Armed forces chief Gen. Ali Abdollahi announced an expanded target list and said Iran "will not wait for the enemy to launch an attack" once hostile action is confirmed. Breitbart says Khamenei has not been seen or heard publicly since taking over, and that his statements have come only in writing.

Washington's posture. The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that Gulf governments were told to prepare for a possible "short, intense" campaign after the elections. CENTCOM chief Adm. Brad Cooper briefed Trump at the White House, joined by Pete Hegseth and Gen. Dan Caine. Trump told reporters at Mar-a-Lago he is "not in that much of a hurry" because "we've knocked down their Navy, we've knocked out their air force, we've knocked out their anti-aircraft." He said one or two nuclear sites remain, naming Pickaxe Mountain, and that talks are "going fine" but Iran is "not very reliable." Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, "He hasn't made a decision."

Diplomacy. Qatar held more than 12 hours of talks in Tehran on Friday and continued in Doha on Saturday. Breitbart says talks are stalled over nuclear limits and verification, with Iran seeking sanctions relief, frozen assets and an end to the blockade. Mediators have looked at a plan that could reopen the Strait of Hormuz in as little as two days, with no deal reached.

What to keep in mind. The Iranian orders come from state media, and the Journal's reporting is secondhand here. Our earlier story on the Journal's damage analysis covers the cost of Iran's attacks so far. Our copy of the Breitbart page ended partway through the diplomacy section, so later details are not covered here.
