Trump Says Iran Wants a Settlement 'as Soon as Possible' and a Deal 'Could Happen,' as Vance Reports Progress and Qatari Mediators Shuttle to Tehran

Vance says no deadline has been set and the key demand is proof Iran will not rebuild its nuclear program. Tehran says the ball is in Washington's court. A Breitbart source calls a new framework 'positive talks.'

On election eve, the White House said talks with Iran are moving, though Tehran has not dropped the demands Washington has already rejected, Breitbart News reports.

Trump. On Truth Social Monday, Trump wrote: "Iran wants a settlement, as soon as possible. It could happen!" He credited a "record" drop in oil prices, "down almost $10 a Barrel," to expectations there will be no war. Asked by an NBC correspondent whether he is considering striking Iran after the midterms, he answered "No," per the report. He told Axios "there is no rush" and "we crippled them financially." Breitbart also quotes him in Iowa Sunday: "at some point, we're going to have to give them the hammer."

Vance. Speaking at Joint Base Andrews, Vice President JD Vance said he and Trump "feel pretty good about the prospects for potentially coming to a negotiated settlement." He said no deadline has been set, and that what matters most is assurance that Iran will not "rebuild it or try to rebuild it" regarding its nuclear program. Breitbart notes he reportedly wrote last week to Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.

Tehran. Iran still wants an end to the US naval blockade, sanctions relief and concessions on Strait of Hormuz shipping. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said "the ball is in the U.S. court." Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi offered to shorten implementation of Iran's seven-step plan from a week to two days without changing its conditions. Reuters reported Iranian negotiators left Doha without a breakthrough, though a draft was circulating.

The framework. In a separate exclusive, Breitbart's Matt Mercer reported that a briefed source called a renewed deal framework after a Tehran meeting with Qatari mediators "positive talks," with the US and Iran each reviewing the mediators' latest suggestions. That report is at https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2026/11/02/iran-deal-framework-emerging-following-diplomatic-talks/

What we could not check. The framework comes from one unnamed source. Our earlier report described the Doha talks as ending with no breakthrough. This one is later, and no deal has been announced.
