Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., is set to appear Monday night with left-wing streamer Hasan Piker at a sold-out Minneapolis event, Fox News reports, even as Democrats in her own state ask her to pull out.

The pushback. Rep. Angie Craig, D-Minn., called Piker's rhetoric "polarizing and dangerous" and said embracing him is "a mistake." Sen. Amy Klobuchar's gubernatorial campaign called several of his past statements "reckless and unacceptable." Other Democratic officials and party groups urged Omar and state Sen. Omar Fateh, who is hosting the event, to cancel.

The split. University of Minnesota political scientist Larry Jacobs told FOX 9 the event would "create a split within the DFL" and could put statewide candidates in a tough spot with moderate and Jewish voters.

The defense. Omar's campaign told FOX 9 that early voting among people under 40 is down and "we need to do everything to get young people to the polls." It said the congresswoman sees the Democratic Party as a "Big Tent party."

What Fox says about Piker. Fox lists remarks it says drew backlash, including a 2019 comment that "America deserved 9/11," which he later apologized for. It says he said earlier this year on "Pod Save America" that he would "vote for Hamas over Israel every single time," and that he described Orthodox Jews as "inbred." In August he said that if American Jews keep tying themselves to Israel, "eventually someone will come around and take action" against them, according to Fox. Piker rejects accusations of antisemitism.

Note for readers: Fox says it asked Omar's campaign, Fateh and Piker for comment and had not heard back. The quotes attributed to Piker are as Fox reports them, and we did not review the original recordings.
