ICE Arrests a Mexican Man Deported Twice Who Has Convictions for Cruelty Toward His Wife, DUI and Assaulting an Officer
Documents obtained by the Daily Caller say Serferino Trinidad Ortega hid under his vehicle during the Oct. 18 operation. He remains in ICE custody while the agency works to reinstate his prior removal order.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested a Mexican national who had re-entered the country after two deportations, according to documents the Daily Caller obtained.
The man. ICE apprehended Serferino Trinidad Ortega during a targeted enforcement operation, the Caller reports. The documents list convictions for two counts of cruelty toward his wife, two counts of driving under the influence of liquor, battery, assaulting a police officer and obstructing a police officer.
His immigration history. The documents say Ortega first entered the U.S. illegally in 2002 and was ordered out by an immigration judge. He was deported in October of that year, returned at an unknown date and place, and was deported again in August 2014. He then entered a third time.
The arrest. On Oct. 18, officers tried to arrest him and the documents say he refused several lawful commands and tried to evade arrest by barricading himself under his vehicle. After he was detained, officers determined he had no legal status. Ortega complained of head pain, was taken to a hospital and was medically cleared before being moved to ICE custody. He remains there pending reinstatement of his prior removal order to Mexico, the Caller has learned.
The agency's line. ICE Assistant Director for Public Affairs Micah Bock told the Caller: "Any illegal alien ICE finds will be deported. ICE is prioritizing Americans' safety, and that starts with removing these violent criminals from our communities."
Note for readers: the account of the arrest and the criminal history comes from ICE documents as described by the Caller. We have not seen them, and the Caller's text includes no comment from Ortega or a lawyer for him.
