Shootings in and around five college communities over the weekend left three people dead and at least 29 injured, according to Fox News. Police in each place are investigating, and Fox says the cases are separate.

Birmingham, Alabama. One person was killed and eight wounded Saturday night near Legion Field after the Magic City Classic between Alabama A&M and Alabama State, police said. Nearly 70,000 fans attended the game. Police said one person was detained and "multiple weapons" were found. Chief Michael Pickett said most fans had already left the stadium grounds.

Bloomington, Illinois. A 19-year-old woman died after a shooting near Illinois Wesleyan University just before 1:25 a.m. Sunday. Seven victims were taken to the hospital, and another woman remains in critical condition. ATF Chicago is assisting.

Boulder, Colorado. One University of Colorado Boulder student, 19, was killed and another critically wounded late Saturday on University Hill. Police say officers had cited the residents for a nuisance party earlier, and detectives believe a group later tried to force their way into the home. They have interviewed about 20 witnesses and released photos of two persons of interest.

Bloomington, Indiana, and Newark, Delaware. Near Indiana University's homecoming, police found a man with a gun after hearing shots around 1:30 a.m., and Fox says seven were hospitalized, though police could not say whether he fired. In Newark, near the University of Delaware, the school has not confirmed a victim count, and one report put six in the hospital.

Elsewhere. Fox adds that Dallas police report four dead and 15 injured in three shootings in one neighborhood, with some arrests made, and that six people were hospitalized after a shooting in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

What to keep in mind. Fox's numbers changed during the day, as its own headline shows, and some counts are early reports. Motives and suspects are unknown in most of these cases, so we are not drawing links among them.
