Two Republican-held Senate seats that Democrats need for a shot at the majority look close with under a week to go, Fox News reports.

Ohio. A Suffolk University poll has Democrat Sherrod Brown ahead of Sen. Jon Husted, 47% to 44%. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.4 points, so the race is inside it. Four percent were undecided and 3% backed someone else. Brown lost his seat to Bernie Moreno in 2024 and is running on the cost of living and data center expansion. Husted got a visit Tuesday from Senate Majority Leader John Thune, who called Ohio "ground zero."

South Carolina. A Siena Research Institute poll for The New York Times has Sen. Darline Graham and Democrat Annie Andrews tied at 48% each, with 3% undecided and under 1% for a third candidate. Fox describes Graham as the sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, appointed to the seat in July. She has Trump's backing, and the state went his way by 17.8 points in 2024. Andrews calls her inexperienced and an extension of her brother. Andrews backs enshrining abortion access, more requirements for gun ownership and wider access to health care.

The math. Republicans hold 53 seats. Fox says that if both races went the Democrats' way, they would be within striking distance of ending that majority.

Note for readers: these are single polls, one from each pollster, and Fox does not give sample sizes. The Ohio result is within the stated margin of error. Election Day is Nov. 3.
