Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, is asking the Department of Homeland Security for hard numbers on deportations, Breitbart News reports in an exclusive.

The ask. Roy wrote to DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin to follow up on a June 10 request. He wants the number of illegal aliens deported, split between removals at the border and removals from the interior. He says Congress needs "an exact accounting" and that the data would show whether lawmakers should give the administration more resources or legislation.

The goal he cites. Roy points to President Trump's promise of the largest mass deportation operation in history, with a target of one million removals a year.

The numbers in dispute. Breitbart says DHS officials have said more than 605,000 illegal aliens were deported in 2025 and about 2.2 million have self-deported since late January 2025. Roy notes that other reports suggested about 230,000 were deported from the interior last year.

Strategy. Roy also raises priorities for enforcement, from targeting people with serious criminal records to worksite operations that could apprehend hundreds at once. He wrote that DHS has "undoubtedly worked around the clock" on interior enforcement. Other House Republicans signed a similar letter in June.
