Left-wing allies of Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed reacted angrily Sunday to Rep. Haley Stevens' decision to endorse his Republican opponent, Mike Rogers, Fox News reports.

What they said. Streamer Hasan Piker posted on X that Stevens is a "self interested striver who's weirdly obsessed with israel." Mehdi Hasan, editor-in-chief of Zeteo News, called her a "complete traitor" and wrote, "She's evil." Former DNC vice chair David Hogg urged Democrats to denounce her. Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, said she endorsed Rogers because "her only source of power is the Israeli lobby." Pod Save America co-hosts Jon Lovett and Tommy Vietor also criticized her, and Fox says Sen. Chris Van Hollen accused her of being used as a "tool" for "racism and religious bigotry."

The background. Stevens lost the Democratic primary narrowly to El-Sayed. She had criticized him for not condemning what she called antisemitism among some supporters, and she called an ad from Rebellion PAC, which Uygur founded, antisemitic. El-Sayed's campaign said it was not affiliated with the ad. He said Saturday, "I do not agree with the contents of that ad." El-Sayed then disinvited Stevens from a unity event, and she endorsed Rogers.

The Republican response. RNC spokesman Hunter Lovell said the endorsement showed Rogers' appeal beyond Republican voters and that Rogers is building a coalition of Democrats, independents and Republicans. His statement also used harsh language about El-Sayed that we have not repeated here.

On the ground. Asked how she can back a candidate whose positions oppose hers, Stevens said, "Nothing is perfect." Fox says a heckler called her a traitor. It also reports that her fiance and her former campaign chairman had already decided to vote for Rogers. Fox says it asked El-Sayed's campaign for comment and did not hear back.

What to keep in mind. This piece reports reactions from partisans on both sides, and Fox's account leans on the critics of Stevens. It does not include a reply from Stevens to these specific attacks. Election Day is Tuesday.
