eBay to Cut About 1,000 Jobs, 9% of Its Workforce, in Its Second Round of Layoffs This Year
CEO Jamie Iannone's memo says 'our strategy is working' as the company narrows its investments. The cuts follow about 800 positions eliminated in February and come a week before third-quarter earnings.
eBay is cutting roughly 1,000 jobs, about 9% of its workforce, in its second layoff round of 2026. Fox Business reports the news from a Reuters scoop on an internal memo.
What the memo says. CEO Jamie Iannone told staff the company must decide where to direct its investments and resources to capture future opportunities. "Our strategy is working," he wrote. Affected employees will be told in the coming days. An eBay spokesperson confirmed the layoffs to Reuters on Wednesday.
The numbers. In February, eBay eliminated about 800 positions, roughly 6% of its workforce. At the end of 2025 it employed about 12,300 people worldwide, around 7,200 of them in the United States, according to its annual filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Fox does not say how many of the new cuts fall in the U.S. or which teams are affected.
The business. Fox says the cuts come as eBay expands in luxury goods, collectibles and refurbished merchandise. In July it finished buying the secondhand fashion marketplace Depop from Etsy for about $1.4 billion. The company says fashion generates more than $10 billion in annual gross merchandise volume for eBay.
What is next. eBay reports third-quarter earnings next week. Fox Business says it reached out to the company for comment. The clip that accompanies the story, per Fox, shows GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen discussing a proposed $56 billion takeover of eBay, but the article does not explain how, if at all, that proposal relates to the layoffs.
