Justice Department Charges 18 More Foreign Nationals With Voting Illegally in North Carolina, Bringing the State Total to 30
Breitbart relays the DOJ list. Most of those named are described as lawful permanent residents, not illegal entrants. The charges are allegations, with penalties of up to five years for false citizenship claims.
The Justice Department has charged 18 more foreign nationals with voting illegally in North Carolina, a swing state, Breitbart reports.
The numbers. Acting Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter said the new charges bring the total to 30 people in North Carolina "who have violated our laws by illegally registering to vote and illegally voting." U.S. Attorney Russ Ferguson noted that in the state's 2025 municipal elections, 14 races were decided by two votes, 15 by one vote and 7 ended tied. "Every vote matters," he said.
The two longest cases. Breitbart says Elizabeth Margaret Crudup, 52, of Kenya, is accused of registering in 2008 and voting illegally in nine general elections between 2008 and 2024 and nine primaries. Gregory Eugene Wade, 64, of Bermuda, is accused of registering in 2000 and voting in 12 general elections from 2000 to 2024, plus two primaries.
The others. The other 16 are from Guatemala, Italy, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Jamaica, Colombia, Greece, the Netherlands, Mexico, Cuba, Barbados, Argentina, Nigeria, the Dominican Republic, France and St. Kitts and Nevis. Only one, Selvin Porfidio Gonzalez Escobar of Guatemala, is described as an illegal alien. The other 15 are described as lawful permanent residents. Several are accused of signing early voting or authorization forms that claimed U.S. citizenship before voting in the November 2024 federal election.
The penalties. Those charged with falsely claiming citizenship face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Those charged with illegal voting face up to a year and a $100,000 fine. "If you're not an American citizen, you cannot vote in our federal elections," McCotter said.
Note for readers: these are charges, not convictions, and we have not checked the court filings. Breitbart does not say how the defendants were identified or whether any have responded to the charges.
