The Justice Department announced another round of election-crime charges on the eve of Election Day, the Daily Wire reports.

The numbers. The department said Monday that 63 more people had been charged with election-related crimes, including illegal voting in past elections and fraudulent voter registration. The Daily Wire says the group includes four people in the country illegally and dozens of foreign nationals, from Latin America to the Middle East. It says that over the last nine weeks, 195 foreign nationals have been arrested in 25 states for election-related crimes. The Daily Wire adds that most of those named were lawful permanent residents.

The department's case. "Today's announcement marks the largest surge of voter-fraud arrests since President Trump returned to office," Attorney General Todd Blanche said. He said the department will keep investigating and prosecuting voter fraud "to restore confidence in our electoral system."

Examples cited. The department's list includes people accused of falsely claiming citizenship to vote, or of voting as a noncitizen, in the 2020 and 2024 elections, in states including Georgia, Texas, Maryland and North Carolina. In two cases, it says, long-time registrants voted in nine or more general elections going back to 2000 or 2008. In another, a lawful permanent resident is accused of checking a box on a form saying "I am a U.S. citizen" before voting, and later denied ever claiming citizenship. We are not naming individuals, since the charges have not been tried.

The political backdrop. The Daily Wire notes the arrests follow the failure of the SAVE America Act, which would have required proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections, in the Republican-controlled Senate. The department says it will have monitors in all 50 states on Election Day and asks citizens to report suspected fraud.

What else happened Monday. A federal judge in Washington separately blocked DOJ and DHS from sending states lists of suspected noncitizen voters, as we reported earlier. A second judge ruled on the monitors' conduct, covered in our separate report.

What we could not check. We did not see the charging documents. All of the people named are accused, not convicted. The Daily Wire's report relies on the Justice Department's announcement, and the report does not include responses from the defendants.
