Disney is planning thousands of layoffs as part of a push to cut 20 percent of its annual costs, according to a report Breitbart relays from Bloomberg.

The report. Bloomberg, citing sources close to the matter, says Disney will cut expenses in several ways, including laying off parts of its workforce. Its sources say theme parks, TV channels and the movie studio will be affected more than other areas. They say CEO Josh D'Amaro aims to put some of the savings back into film and TV programming, technology, theme parks and cruise ships.

Disney's response. Breitbart says Disney did not publicly comment on the report.

The pattern. Variety, quoted by Breitbart, says these layoffs would be the fourth round of job cuts in 2026 under D'Amaro and would affect the most staffers. The earlier rounds, as Variety describes them: about 1,000 roles eliminated in April after a consolidated marketing division was formed; several hundred corporate jobs cut in July, including at Pixar, ESPN, Disney Entertainment Television and the studios; and a few hundred employees, mostly in human resources and IT, let go in late September. The Wall Street Journal reported last month that Disney was planning a major restructuring of its TV operations that would eliminate hundreds of jobs and combine divisions.

Prices. Disney also raised streaming prices in September, CBS News reported. The standalone ad-free plans for Disney+ and Hulu each rose $2.50, or 13%, to $21.49 a month, and the ad-supported plans rose 50 cents to $12.49.

What we could not check. This is a report based on unnamed sources, relayed secondhand. We have not seen the Bloomberg story, and neither it nor Breitbart gives a number of jobs, a timeline or a dollar figure for the savings. Nothing here is confirmed by Disney.
