DHS Says There Is 'ZERO Chance' a New Migrant Caravan Will Be Let Into the U.S.; Some Marchers Say They Are Hoping for a Democratic Midterm Win

The Department of Homeland Security says a new caravan heading north from Mexico will not get in, Breitbart reports.

The message. DHS posted on X on Wednesday: "There is absolutely ZERO chance this caravan will be allowed into the United States. We will protect our borders, America is a nation, not an economic zone."

The caravan. Breitbart, in a piece by retired Border Patrol division chief Randy Clark, says the group left Mexico's southern border with Guatemala on Tuesday. Estimates run from 400 to 700 people, mostly from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, with smaller numbers from Nicaragua, Haiti, Venezuela and Cuba. It calls itself "Fe y Esperanza #2," or "Faith and Hope #2," after an earlier caravan that Mexico's immigration institute broke up. After about 30 miles on foot from Tapachula, they reached Huixtla through heavy rain, and La Jornada reports they have asked Mexico's government for food and help.

The midterm angle. Journalist Julio Rosas told Breitbart some caravan members say they hope Democrats win in November. A Honduran migrant told La Jornada, "We would rather die on the road than stay in our country starving." Breitbart reports that some in the group may have been deported in recent months. It notes that reentering after removal is a federal felony, with penalties from up to two years in prison for a first offense to up to 20 years with an aggravated felony record.

Note for readers: Breitbart is a right-leaning outlet and the writer is a former Border Patrol official. The head count is an estimate, the claim that some marchers were deported is attributed to unnamed reports, and the hope for a Democratic win comes from what Rosas says migrants told him. We did not speak to anyone in the caravan. We covered an earlier video report on this caravan leaving Mexico.
