DHS Announces ICE Arrests of Five Foreign Nationals With Convictions for Smuggling, Drug Trafficking and Robbery
Homeland Security says ICE picked up five men Wednesday in Arizona, Florida, California, Virginia and New York, including one with five illegal re-entry convictions. Secretary Mullin framed it as the government delivering on its mandate.
The Department of Homeland Security on Thursday released the latest in its "Worst of the Worst" series of arrest announcements. The agency says Immigration and Customs Enforcement made the five arrests on Wednesday.
Who DHS says was arrested. All details below are DHS's description of the men's criminal records.
Jose Esteban Nunez-Ortega, a Mexican national, arrested in Tucson, Arizona. DHS says he has a conviction for conspiracy to transport illegal aliens and five convictions for illegal re-entry.
Aldo Casares, a Mexican national, arrested in Auburndale, Florida, with a conviction for trafficking in amphetamines.
Ivan Padilla-Carrillo, a Mexican national, arrested in Yreka, California, with a drug trafficking conviction.
Juan Jose Jurado-Gonzalez, a Mexican national, arrested in Richmond, Virginia, convicted of possession with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine.
Abdul Lopez-Lujan, a Panamanian national, arrested in Brooklyn, New York, with a robbery conviction.
The department's message. Secretary Markwayne Mullin said ICE goes after criminal illegal aliens every day and described the arrests as part of delivering on "the American people's mandate to end the invasion of drugs and crime." DHS pointed readers to its WOW.DHS.gov page for more arrests.
Note for readers: this is a government press release, and we have not checked court records for the five men. The release does not say when or where any of the convictions took place beyond the arrest locations, or what happens next in each case.
