# Report Says Six Medical Schools Renamed DEI Offices With Words Like 'Belonging' and 'Excellence' While the Programming Stayed the Same

CriticalRace.org's report, shared first with Fox, names Drexel, Hofstra/Northwell, Saint Louis University, Northwestern, Temple and Nevada-Reno. The schools that responded say they follow the law and support all students.

A new report argues that medical schools are relabeling their diversity, equity and inclusion offices instead of changing them, Fox News reports in a "First on Fox" item.

The claim. CriticalRace.org examined six schools and found the offices had new names, and some softer language since President Trump took office in 2025, but largely the same programming. William Jacobson, a Cornell Law professor and founder of the Equal Protection Project, said "the rebranding is not really meaningful." He called the new terms "euphemisms for critical race theory."

The examples. Drexel's Office of Community Health and Inclusive Excellence absorbed the old DEI office and still supports a Diversity Week. Hofstra/Northwell's Zucker School renamed its office "Engagement & Excellence" and lists events such as "Safe and Brave Spaces" and "Diversity Night." Northwestern's Feinberg School replaced its DEI office with an Office of Health Equity that offers "Safe Space Training." Temple's Lewis Katz school renamed its office SPHERE, which the report says still promotes "equity" programs. Nevada-Reno moved its programs to a Multicultural Center. Saint Louis University's School of Medicine is also named in the report.

The responses. Hofstra said the school "supports all students while remaining consistent with its institutional values and applicable law." Nevada-Reno said it has no named DEI office, has an associate dean for inclusive excellence, and complies with federal and state law. The Multicultural Center, it said, supports students and does not handle recruitment or admissions. Drexel, Saint Louis, Northwestern and Temple had not responded to Fox.

Note for readers: this is the advocacy group's own review of six schools, not a survey of medical education, and renaming does not by itself show any violation of law. Fox's piece does not report any federal action against these schools.
