Costco Offers an Online Thanksgiving Meal for $199.99 That Serves Eight, as Walmart Pitches a $35 Basket for Ten
Fox Business says the 30-pound bundle is marked down from $269.99 through Nov. 30, ships frozen by FedEx and can be ordered through Nov. 13. That works out to about $25 a person, against Walmart's $3.50.
Holiday shoppers have a new price to compare, Fox Business reports.
The deal. Costco is selling an online-only Thanksgiving bundle for $199.99 that it says serves eight people. It is marked down from $269.99 with a $70 manufacturer's discount available through Nov. 30 while supplies last. Fox puts the cost at about $25 per person.
What is in it. Twelve items, about 30 pounds of food: a 5-pound turkey breast, 3 pounds each of mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, sweet corn, green bean casserole and cornbread stuffing, 2 pounds of candied yams, 12 dinner rolls, 24 ounces of turkey gravy, 20 ounces of cranberry relish, a 2-pound apple cobbler and a 2-pound pumpkin pie. The turkey is pre-brined, and many of the sides need only heating, Costco says.
How it ships. The bundle is sold only online and ships frozen through FedEx with second-day delivery. Shoppers can preorder through Nov. 13, with deliveries scheduled between Nov. 4 and Nov. 20. Costco said: "We've made Thanksgiving much easier for you and your family with this bundle."
The comparison. Fox notes Walmart recently announced a $35 holiday basket it says can feed 10 people, about $3.50 per person. Walmart says its basket has 26 items, 18% more than last year, and costs 12% less than the same items did a year ago. The two offers are not like for like: Costco's is a prepared meal with a turkey breast, and Fox does not say what is in Walmart's basket.
