# Comcast Warns of a Charge Above $1 Billion in the Fourth Quarter and Coming Layoffs Ahead of the 2027 NBCUniversal Spin-Off; Cable Revenue Fell 2.7%

The cable and media giant is preparing a large restructuring, Breitbart reports, citing Variety.

The charge. On the third-quarter earnings call, CFO Jason Armstrong said: "We expect to have a significant charge in the fourth quarter related mostly to our transformation efforts, and I would quantify that at over $1 billion." The company is preparing to spin off NBCUniversal "in a tax-free transaction" planned for 2027.

The jobs. Comcast has about 179,000 employees. Breitbart, citing Variety, says the full extent of job losses is not yet clear and departments are just beginning to decide where cuts might fall.

The company's framing. Armstrong said the restructuring is meant "to get ahead of cost actions that will facilitate sort of a fast start into 2027." He said, "We don't look at it as a cost-cutting exercise. This is the ability to simplify in order to move faster." Co-CEO Mike Cavanagh said there is "still significant work ahead" but "a clear path to completion" of the NBCU and Sky spin-off.

The numbers. Comcast's cable business revenue fell 2.7% to $19.66 billion in the third quarter. Revenue from NBCU's TV, film and theme parks operations rose 6.5% to $10.54 billion. Breitbart ties the subscriber losses to customers changing how they watch entertainment.
