CNN Exit Poll: 88% of Voters Call the Cost of Living a Crucial or Major Factor in Their Vote, Breitbart Reports
Breitbart notes the question measured how much the issue mattered, not which party those voters chose. A pre-election Reuters/Ipsos survey also put the cost of living first.
Household costs weighed heavily on voters Tuesday, according to exit poll figures Breitbart cites from CNN.
The numbers. Cost of living was a crucial or major factor for 88% of voters. Breitbart gives the breakdown as 49% crucial, 39% major, 10% minor and 1% no role.
An important limit. Breitbart stresses that the question measured how important the issue was to the vote. By itself it does not show which party those voters supported.
A second survey. Breitbart also points to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released before the election. Among registered voters, 48% named the cost of living as their top voting issue, compared with 26% who chose democratic norms and 13% who chose immigration. The poll interviewed 1,765 adults from Thursday through Monday, and the margin of error among registered voters was about three percentage points.
Related. Our earlier report covered Fox Business's look at inflation at 3.7% and gasoline prices as Election Day opened.
What we could not check. We did not see the CNN exit poll tables or the Reuters/Ipsos questionnaire. Exit poll numbers can be revised as more interviews are added.
