Business reaction to Democrats taking both chambers of Congress was mixed Wednesday, Fox Business reports.

Markets. Stock futures fell overnight on the prospect of tighter rules for AI, crypto and data centers, then recovered after President Trump said he would accept the results, per Reuters as cited by Fox. Daniela Hathorn of Capital.com told Reuters this "helped ease some concerns about prolonged political confrontation and legislative gridlock," while adding that big policy disputes are still likely. Our earlier reports covered the overnight sell-off and Wednesday's rally.

Gridlock as a plus. Deborah Cunningham of Federated Hermes said a split government could create a "blockade against new legislation." Fox notes markets have historically liked divided government because it limits big policy shifts.

The AI worry. Tech investors fear limits on building power-hungry data centers. Fox notes Texas Democratic Gov.-elect Gina Hinojosa campaigned on keeping a moratorium on new data center construction until the state addresses their impact. Brad Gerstner of Altimeter Capital said fears of a broad halt are exaggerated, though new rules could delay projects. He estimated 10 to 15 gigawatts of expected AI capacity could be affected, per MarketWatch.

Musk. Fox says Elon Musk, who spent more than $400 million backing Republicans this cycle, wrote on X after several of his candidates lost: "Data centers in space looking pretty appealing right now." He added: "Guess my election-interfering space lasers didn't work this time."

Other industries. Continental CFO Roland Welzbacher told Reuters companies need "stability and a reliable economic framework." Fraport CEO Stefan Schulte suggested the results could ease worries about customs problems for travelers to the U.S., but cautioned against overstating that. Democratic donor Reid Hoffman wrote on X that the results were "an overwhelming wave against Trump and his cronies" and urged Democrats to "fight for an economy that serves every American, not just the already rich and powerful."

What we could not check. Most quotes come from Reuters and MarketWatch as relayed by Fox, and we did not read those reports. The Gerstner estimate is his own.
